Student Affairs
IASNR provide students with the opportunity to participate in an international professional organization fostering an interdisciplinary approach at the crossroads of the social and natural sciences.
Student Affairs Committee
One of the hallmarks of the International Association for Society and Natural Resources has been a strong commitment to student participation. The IASNR Council and the IASNR Conference (formerly called ISSRM) planning committees have strived to create a welcoming atmosphere that engages students in professional development activities. The IASNR Student Affairs Committee was established to help perpetuate this goal. The SAC is charged with encouraging student involvement in IASNR, increasing the benefits of student membership in the association, and facilitating experiences that foster the next generation of environmental scholars and practitioners. If you would like to become involved in the SAC, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either co-chair on the committee.
Participation in the SAC is voluntary, and involvement depends on your preferences, interest, and capacity. Opportunities for involvement include any combination of the following: joining our Slack channel and/or listserv, attending meetings, leading initiatives (e.g., student-led events during the conference), sharing your ideas about student needs, or in any other ways you see fit.

Best paper submitted by a Doctoral student: check for $300.
Best paper submitted by a Master’s student: check for $200.
Best paper submitted by an undergraduate: check for $100.
The SAC was established to coordinate the student Quiz Bowl, a trivia competition that creates a place for student participants to informally interact and exchange ideas while incorporating a slight spirit of competition. If you attended ISSRM 2008 at the University of Vermont, you will undoubtedly recount the energy and enthusiasm that accompanied the first annual ISSRM Quiz Bowl. This event successfully brought together teams of students to foster collegiality, enhance knowledge of social science issues applied to the environment and natural resources, and highlight the strong research programs that are a traditional part of the IASNR Conference.
