The 2022 calendar year (Volume 35 of the journal), is the second full year of Kristin Floress and Emily S. Huff’s appointment as Editors-in-Chief. To date, issues 1-12 have been published online. The printed journal for the last quarter mailing of Volume 35 will be mailed in the coming weeks.

The Editors-in-Chief greatly appreciate the strong, supportive role SNR‘s Book Review Editors Claudia Benham (James Cook University, Townsville, Australia) and Laura Verbrugge (University of Aalto, Espoo, Finland) and SNR’s Associate Editors  play in the editorial review process. The Editors-in-Chief also wish to thank all Editorial Board Members  for their invaluable, ongoing contribution in the review process of manuscripts submitted to SNR. The Editors of Society & Natural Resources (SNR) are pleased to announce the new Book Review Co-Editors for 2023-2025 have been selected!

We would like to especially thank the outgoing Book Review Co-Editors, Claudia Benham (James Cook University, Townsville, Australia) and Laura Verbrugge (University of Aalto, Espoo, Finland) for their service to the journal.

Under the direction of the Editors-in-Chief, the Book Review Editor(s) receives prospective books for review from publishers; solicits and receives reviews of books, films, and other media for the journal; manages the review, revision, and acceptance process for such reviews; and serves as a member of the journal’s Editorial Board.

8th Annual “Rabel J. Burdge and Donald R. Field Outstanding Article Award”

The Editors and Editorial Board of Society & Natural Resources are pleased to begin forming a committee to select a paper for the SNR’s “Rabel J. Burdge and Donald R. Field Outstanding Article Award” for papers published in 2022.

The Paper Award Committee will select a paper based on its innovative and meaningful contributions to the study of society and natural resources and its promise to be influential over time.

The paper authors will be formally recognized at the IASNR All Member’s Meeting at the 2023 IASNR Conference in Portland, Maine, USA June 11-15, 2023, and on the IASNR website and social media pages.

SNR Special Issues

Together with the Guest Editors, the Editors-in-Chief are  currently working on three special issues:

Human Dimensions of Air Quality. Guest Editors include Chris Zajchowski (Old Dominion University), Jörg Königstorfer (Technical University of Munich), and Mary Mostafanezhad (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa).

What is at Stake? The Ontological Dimension of Environmental Conflict. Guest Editors include Riccarda Flemmer (University of Hamburg), Verena Gresz (University of Hamburg), and Jonas Hein (University of Kiel).

Conservation, Natural Resources, & Environmental Protection in Africa. Guest Editors include Frank Matose (University of Cape Town – Rondebosch, South Africa ), Lotsmart Fonjong (State University of New York – Syracuse, NY, USA), & David A. Sonnenfeld (State University of New York – Syracuse, NY, USA). 

Open Call for Special Issue Proposals

The Editors-in-Chief of Society and Natural Resources would like to invite scholars to submit proposals for a Special Issue. Topics of particular interest are:

  • Energy systems
  • Food systems
  • Soil
  • Air
  • Urban systems

If you are interested in serving as an SNR Guest Editor for a Special Issue, please submit the following in one PDF:

  • Proposed title.
  • Guest Editorial Team (2-3 people).
  • Special Issue abstract.
  • Timeline (note that the timeline should end with ‘paper submission to SNR’ as the timeline from there will follow the normal journal process).
  • Please keep in mind that a call for papers will be sent by the SNR Office for all special issues. All special issue submissions will undergo the typical review process for SNR papers.
