Reaching net zero emissions will not be possible without meaningful change to human behaviour and its antecedents (attitudes, values, beliefs, etc.). Net Zero Atlantic and partner organizations in Atlantic Canada are undertaking a research program that will seek to 1) characterize barriers to and opportunities for realizing low or zero emissions behaviours in the transportation, buildings, and agriculture sectors, 2) design and solicit public feedback on behavioural interventions that can address any of the barriers identified, and 3) integrating a set of proposed behavioural interventions within an existing open-source energy system model of Atlantic Canada.

Start Date – End Date: March 15th, 2024 – March 15th, 2025
To complete this research program, we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work in collaboration with Net Zero Atlantic and partner research organizations. The position will be supervised in collaboration with our research partner at Dalhousie University, and its funding will be administered through the Mitacs Accelerate Program.
The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers across Atlantic Canada. The research outcomes will be communicated to local and provincial decision-makers to help accelerate the transition to net zero emissions.
This is a full-time, contract position subject to funding, job performance and meeting minimum qualifications.
Your qualifications include:
- A PhD in behavioural science, organizational psychology, or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research within peer-reviewed outlets.
- Demonstrated experience leading and/or working on collaborative, multi-institutional research teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation and organizing skills.
- Experience in collecting and analyzing data related to low or zero emissions behaviours and a proven track record in developing and implementing methodologies for assessing the impacts of behavioural interventions on energy systems would be a valuable asset.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading research activities of the project’s multi-institutional research team.
- Mentoring graduate students and research assistants.
- Publishing two papers on research activities and research outcomes within peer-reviewed outlets.
- Collaborating in collecting baseline performance data, characterizing costs for behavioural interventions, and developing a methodology for integrating these behaviours and interventions into an energy system model.
