The Department of Environmental Sciences at the Tennessee State University invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position as Extension Assistant Professor of Human Dimensions of Forestry. This role is integral to our mission of fostering sustainable management and engagement with natural resources in urban and rural communities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree required in forestry, natural resource management, environmental studies, or related discipline by appointment time. Demonstrated expertise in the social, socio-economic, cultural, or behavioral aspects of human interactions with forests. Proven ability to design and execute applied research program that engages various stakeholders and audiences including government agencies, industry, private forest landowners, foundations, and NGOs. A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and success in securing external grants.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a dynamic research program focusing on human dimensions of forestry, including but not limited to collaborative resource management, community forestry, and socio-economic aspects of forestry.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate statewide Extension and outreach educational programs addressing the human dimensions of forestry. Collaborate with other Extension faculty and agents to meet community needs.
- Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses, both in-person and online, contributing to the department’s curriculum. Mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students is also expected.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including engagement with stakeholders and community organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research approaches in a natural resource context.
- A demonstrated interest in community-engaged research and the ability to foster inclusive learning environments.
- Experience in securing competitive funding for research projects.
- Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
