NYU Shanghai is currently inviting applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice in Ecology. We seek candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. We invite applications from candidates in any subfield of ecology, and those with expertise in urban ecology, agroecology, plant science, horticulture, conservation biology, and/or socio-ecological systems are especially encouraged to apply. Knowledge about local vegetation patterns and permaculture practices is desirable. As a Professor of Practice, teaching will be a primary component of the position. The successful candidate will be expected to design and implement a first-year Core Course in Experimental Discovery as part of their teaching obligations, in addition to contributing to the interdisciplinary curriculum in Environmental Studies. The successful candidate will also play a key role in managing the 400-sq-meter Edible Garden and Farm Lab on the rooftop of the new Qiantan campus, in close consultation with a committee of faculty, staff, and students. There will be opportunities to contribute to the Zaanheh Project, which is an interdisciplinary research undertaking that spans from the sedimentary history of the lower Yangtze delta to the social evolution of human settlements in the region.
