Expert Overview

I am the Social Scientist for Acadia National Park where I study all things people. I am most interested in visitor patterns and behavior, and how to balance recreation with preservation of park resources. Some of our most pressing social science issues at Acadia include transportation management and planning, human-wildlife conflicts, recreation conflicts, trail impacts, natural sound and night sky protection, dog waste and dogs off leash, and general visitor use management.




Education

B.S. in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma, M.A. and Ph.D. in Human Dimensions of Natual Resources from Colorado State University. Post doctoral work at Colorado State University and North Carolina State University.


Experience

Faculty positions at Utah State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and University of Oklahoma. Field research experience in Denali, Glacier, Grand Canyon, North Cascades, Rocky Mountain, and Yosemite National Parks. As well as Alcatraz Island and Muir Woods National Monument. Social Scientist at Acadia National Park since 2019.
